Post-Generic Filmmaking

The modern Hollywoods production has been named as Post generic filmmaking due to film directors combining two or more films together to make a better or superior film to those directors who just use one genre, e.g. combining a comedy and war film to make a comedy war drama.

Some times film directors get it wrong as maybe just one of the genres appeal to the audience and the other letting the film down, such as Wild Wild West as it didn't appeal to fans of the western genre and it wasn't seen as very funny. They can also go wrong if the director concentrates on one of the genres inparticular and not so much on the other, leaving the film half done and not to its full potential.

To me the most obvious film I have seen which has done this is Tropical Thunder, I felt they tried to be too funny at times and it wasn't as entertaining as i thought it could of been, perhaps if written by some one different but kept the same actors it could of lived up to its potential.

Research activity

Several people I asked about how they select films they want to see, answered mainly the trailers persuade them to watch the films as it gives a lot away about what the film is about and what it is going to be like. Such as Avatar, you see blue people walking around and flying on what looks to be like dinasours, big jungles, and men on futuristic helicopters and military equipment attacking them. Which to most people would be a good film to spend your money on.

Other people answered they will watch a pirate DVD first before they decide to watch it in the cinema or even buy it on a normal DVD when it is released, as again even if the pirate DVD is of bad quality you still get a big insight into what the film is like and about.

Some People said when in the cinema watching a certain film or at home watching a new DVD they decide what film to watch by seeing trailers of other films before they watch the one they have payed for.

Overall most of the people I asked said they will be on youtube and just come across certain films which are not out yet but they want to see.
